About Us:

BDI is a company dedicated to sustainable development and environmental restoration. We are redeveloping and revitalizing a large brownfield site, with the goal to transform the historically underutilized land into a vibrant, environmentally friendly community of residences and businesses located next to transit in the Bay Area.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced environmental expert to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory compliance, environmental science, urban planning, and real estate development. They will play a critical role in maintaining our commitment to environmental stewardship while effectively managing our environmental permitting and entitlement process.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Regulatory Compliance: Manage all regulatory compliance of the brownfield remedial action plans and landfill closure plans, ensuring that all plans adhere to applicable regulations and plans.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, environmental consultants, and other stakeholders to garner support for brownfield redevelopment initiatives and address concerns proactively.
  3. Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analyses, including cost estimation, budgeting, and ROI assessment, to determine the economic viability of the project and secure funding from various sources, including grants, loans, and private investments.
  4. Environmental Assessment: Oversee remediation strategies, and monitoring programs to mitigate environmental risks and ensure the safety of workers, residents, and the surrounding environment.
  5. Negotiation and Contract Management: Negotiate agreements with contractors and vendors, and oversee contract administration to ensure that project goals are met on time and within budget.
  6. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and documentation detailing project progress, milestones, expenditures, and outcomes for internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and the public.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related physical science or engineering field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in brownfield redevelopment, environmental consulting, real estate development, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of California’s environmental regulations, land use policies, and local zoning ordinances. Working experience with RWQCB, DTSC, BAAQMD preferred.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from conception to completion, preferably in the brownfield redevelopment sector.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills and the ability to interpret complex regulations.
  • Proficiency in project management tools, financial modeling software, and GIS applications.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends, as needed, to accommodate community meetings and events.
