Senior Portfolio and Fund Accountant Overview: Perform and coordinate complex accounting activities for various investment portfolios, and/or specific funds. Prepare and oversee communications with investors or internal staff regarding such entities’ financial data. Analyze financial data and create relevant management reports. Prepare financial statements and maintain fiscal records.

Typically with a minimum of eight (8) years of advanced accounting experience in addition to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a certified public accountant (CPA) certificate and license. Held positions of increasing responsibility within an accounting department in a fund accountant role and has demonstrated application and knowledge in the fundamentals of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Demonstrates positive relationships with all company stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinating complex accounting activities for a portfolio of specific funds. Performing, coordinating, and reviewing the end-to-end process of fund accounting, including booking fund transactions, position and cash reconciliations, quarterly asset valuations, corporate action processing, and production of periodic financial and investor statements.
  • Preparing and overseeing timely communications with investors or internal staff regarding such entities’ financial data, specifically preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements and investor reports in accordance with compliance standards. Working collaboratively and closely with compliance and the operational teams to demonstrate a client-first approach.  
  • Performing fund accounting duties related to capital activities, expense accruals, income, cash reconciliation and portfolio positions, regulatory reporting, and accurate end-to-end processing calculations in support of reporting the Net Asset Value (NAV) for the Funds. Performing general ledger reviews for accuracy and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Acting as point of contact with outside accountants for preparation of fund annual audits and tax returns.  Setting expectations for remaining in compliance with federal regulations for all investment entities.
  • Acting as point of contact for Fund entities’ banking requirements, including approval of requests for advances from credit lines. 
    Reviewing invoices to be paid from Fund entities.  Approving requests for reimbursement from real estate investments and potential investments.
  • Demonstrating commitment to National’s Sustainability Policy and best practices.
Qualifications:
  • Must have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, in addition to retaining a certified public accountant (CPA) certificate and license.
  • Must have a minimum of eight (8) years of advanced accounting experience, and held positions of increasing responsibility within an accounting department in a fund accountant role, and demonstrated application and knowledge in the fundamentals of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including risk management. Public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Exhibit fundamental real estate knowledge, sound judgment, and consistently build positive relationships with investors, financial institutions, auditors, legal counsel, and other critical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills to listen, interpret data, and clearly articulate accounting results and present in written form.
  • Ability to work well with all company stakeholders. Essential to exhibit seasoned, comprehensive real estate knowledge, sound judgment and consistently display confidence and positive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Create and maintain relationships with existing and potential investors for assigned funds and communicate results to external parties as needed.
  • Proven strategic problem-solver with very strong experience in process improvement to advance the firm’s accounting effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Strong work ethic, effective in ambiguous situations, and committed to proactively meeting deadlines.
  • Intermediate to advanced application of Microsoft Office Suite; specifically, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe. Must have strong computer literacy skills and use advanced accounting software and other computer-based tools to work effectively.
  • This position requires applicants to be authorized to work in the United States.

Work Environment:

  1. This job primarily operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. This is a largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool, as necessary.
