The successful candidate will provide senior leadership and oversight for all aspects of campus construction and renovation projects in support of a 4 million SF, 512-acre campus. Responsibilities include selecting and managing the services of architects, engineers and consultants through all phases of design and construction, assist with the development of our capital improvement plan and system funded construction program. The Director will create and sustain an environment that maximizes the contribution of each team member in fulfilling UMBC’s mission while focusing on continuous quality improvement, realizing efficiencies, reducing costs, and delivering projects on time and in budget.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or related field from an accredited institution (an advanced degree and Professional Licensure as an Architect or Engineer is desired). Seven to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in capital planning, facilities design, construction, development and oversight of capital projects and providing oversight and direction to architects, engineers and contractors is required. The successful candidate must exhibit a broad knowledge of the design and construction process and be knowledgeable about codes and standards. Extensive leadership experience, technical expertise, and problem-solving ability and a demonstrated ability to function as part of a collegial, high-performing team are required. Must demonstrate the ability to interpret plans, sketches, drawings and blueprints of buildings and equipment and effectively communicate these details, concepts or design ideas to various technical and non-technical stakeholders.
