The Professionals’ Choice for Real Estate Jobs

Cottage Industry

Glancing through Delta’s “Sky” magazine,” a small house in Austin Texas with a covered porch that wraps around two sides of the residence caught my eye. A house/apartment combo could be ideal. Surprisingly, a non-profit, technology start-up had created this solid concrete bungalow on a 3D-printer in roughly 48 hours for $10,000. Two non-profits, New Story and Icon, a Construction Tech Company, are banking their process will help solve the global housing crisis. Icon’s new Vulcan II printer is as big as their vision standing 11.5 feet tall, 33 feet wide and weighing 3,800 pounds. It has already printed homes as large as a 2,000 sq. ft. family residence, but only on one story for now. The company developed ‘Lavacrete” that can be easily fed into the printer. Icon has already partnered with Austin-based Cielo Property Group to build affordable housing in Texas’ capital city and these are concrete, built to last homes.
