We’re seeking a Commercial Mortgage-Backed Security (CMBS) Analyst or Associate with 1-4 years of experience to join our CMBS Ratings Team in New York, NY in a quantitative analytics role.
About the Team
Our CMBS team assigns and monitors credit ratings across a variety of transaction types including Conduits, Single Borrower & Large Loan, CRE CLO, Small Balance and SFR securitizations. Our primary objective is to assign and maintain high quality credit ratings in a timely manner, which involves conducting property cash flow and valuation; pool-level and structure analysis; and publishing our viewpoints based on our research and analysis, as well as conducting market-leading topical research. We pride ourselves on quality, accuracy, timeliness and consistency of our product.
About the Job
You will have dual responsibilities in the quantitative analytics role: technical and analytical. In the technical role, you will be responsible for owning and managing the group’s proprietary SQL databases and leveraging them to generate analytical insights. In this capacity you will also work with various teams within the group to generate and execute projects to enhance team efficiency. The analytical aspects of the position require the successful candidate to learn, understand, and apply KBRA’s CMBS methodologies and proprietary models in conjunction with our ratings assignment and monitoring processes. You will also assist in preparation of research and data compilations to facilitate production of ratings reports and topical research. The role will offer you diversity of exposure across technology, credit ratings analysis, and commercial real estate finance.

You excel in a fast-paced, intellectual, and friendly environment. You have a natural analytical aptitude towards problem solving and don’t mind rolling up your sleeves to get the work done. You are able to take the initiative and work well independently, along with having the ability to collaborate with team members.
- You will be successful in this role if you:
Have advanced SQL and VBA skills, along with general programming knowledge, in order to build, maintain and query databases, as well as build other tools that help improve the group’s efficiency and analytical capabilities. - Possess strong Excel skills, have an analytic mindset, and pay high attention to detail.
- Are comfortable with dealing with large amounts of data and sifting through it to generate meaningful insights.
- Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business, or Engineering/ Technology related fields. Successful progression toward a CFA designation is a plus.
- Have 1-4 years of relevant technical experience, preferably in a financial institution.
- Have effective oral and written communications skills.
- Familiarity with CREF C Investor Reporting Package & Trepp data is a plus.
