Metro Transit is one of the country's largest transit systems, employs more than 3,000 people, and provides more than 80 million rides a year through an integrated network of buses, light rail and commuter trains, in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.   Metro Transit was also recently named 2016 Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award, or System of the Year by American Public Transportation Association (APTA). 


Metro Transit's Engineering and Facilities Department is responsible for ensuring the agency's physical facilities support the mission of providing quality public transportation throughout the region. Engineering and Facilities maintains two million square feet of office and industrial space as well as passenger enhancements.  The Facilities department is divided into two units: Support and Public Facilities. 

Public Facilities Work Unit is responsible for snow removal, glass replacement, graffiti removal, repairs, cleaning, general functional maintenance for all areas accessible to the public, such as; Park and Ride locations, parking ramps, Green Line and Blue Line Light Rail, Transit Stations and Metro Transit-owned bus stops with shelters and Transit Centers.
 

The Support Facilities Work Unit is responsible for all aspects of all Metro Transit buildings maintenance operations that supports:  Bus garages and bus maintenance facilities (Overhaul Base);  Rail operations and maintenance facilities and rail systems maintenance facilities;  Facilities to support the cleaning and maintenance of public facilities; Transit police stations; Communications control centers (Transit Control Center, Rail Control Center); Employee training facilities; and  Administration buildings. This includes building facilities maintenance functions e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, grounds keeping, etc.) and repair/renovation of Metro Transit maintenance facilities


We are seeking an Assistant Director, Facilities Maintenance to provide management oversight leadership over the Public Facilities and Support Facilities work units and is responsible to plan, direct, implement, coordinate and improve the services/functions of facilities maintenance; including, the areas of safety, energy conservation, sustainability, and long-term facility planning throughout Metro Transit's rail and bus operations. The primary responsibility is to ensure that all facilities are functional, well-maintained and safe for their intended purpose, consistent with Metro Transit's mission, philosophies and standards.

Minimum Requirements: BS/BA degree in Facilities Engineering, Facilities management, Business or related field and 7+years of broad facility management experience typical of industrial based facilities.  This required experience should include HVAC, electrical systems, grounds maintenance, contract administration, control systems and personnel management and administration.  At least 3+ years of supervisory/management experience is also required.    A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted when demonstration of competency in the position is shown.
