Description


  • Provide management and development of institutional capabilities, both processes and infrastructure, in support of PNNL’s science mission.
  • Management of operational risk by translating Laboratory requirements and guidance into the implementation practices necessary to assure efficient and effective execution of mission outcomes.
  • Develop and execute an organizational vision and strategy which aligns with the overall F&O strategy and includes goals and objectives which ensure long-term success and delivers desired outcomes tailored to Laboratory needs.
  • Create, model, and reinforce a culture of excellence, including safety, security, and operational discipline while implementing practices to recruit, develop, assess performance, and retain talented people to support current and future mission needs for a staff of up to 200.  
  • Implement assigned operational/regulatory programs which may include; Project Lifecycle, Worker Safety & Health, Safeguards & Security, Radiation Protection, Environmental Management, Transportation, Emergency Management, Facility Management, Nuclear Safety, Compliance Training and Sustainability.  Assesses and evaluates programs and processes to provide executive level governance and assurance for stewarded facilities and operational programs. 
  • Required to function with a high level of autonomy to provide leadership for staff at a wide variety of levels including bargaining unit, technical, engineering, professional, and management. 
  • Responsibility for management of PNNL facilities and resources, which dependent on the specific assignment, could include management of radiological facilities, state of the art research facilities, and office/support facilities encompassing PNNL’s >2.2M sq/ft as well as site infrastructure encompassing roads, utilities, and >800 acres of stewarded property.
  • Budgetary spans of control may be up to >$50 Million.
  • Routinely interacts with senior management, customer and executive levels. 
  • Coordinates with internal departments in identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects. 
  • Serves on both corporate and institutional advisory boards and Communities of Practice.
