About the role

Trammell Crow Company (TCC) is recruiting a full-time Director to join our Americas Real Assets Research Team! This will be part of a 50-plus person team throughout the globe (Research Team). This individual will be dedicated to fulfilling the research requirements of Trammell Crows where they will play a key role in formulating the Americas investment strategy for Trammell Crow and supporting the bottom-up development pipeline with practical and accurate research (a small component of the work will also involve UK and Europe).

You will report to the Head of Americas Real Assets research at CBREIM and will principally be involved in fulfilling multiple top-down/strategic and bottom-up/asset level research requests in support of our US developments (with some UK/European markets and potentially for other markets in future). While the primary focus will be on the multifamily and logistics markets, coverage responsibilities may include other sectors, including life sciences and others, on a needs' basis.

You will also collaborate with the wider team both in the Americas and globally, and will stay on top of demographic, legislative and economic changes that affect the supply/demand balance in sectors of focus at the national and local levels.

What you'll do

  • Participate in the formulation of market forecasts at the MSA level on a quarterly basis, analyzing the impact of macroeconomic, demographic and capital market trends for US markets, with a development focus (a small component of the work will also include UK and Europe).
  • Adapt and apply these market forecasts to the business objectives of Trammell Crow and collaborated closely frequently with Trammell Crow leadership on the changing opportunity set.
  • Serve as our primary point of contact within the Research Team, providing continual feedback on our current priorities, encouraged timing of our requested results, and distribution of said results to requesting parties.
  • Provide context for the investment recommendations within the firm's proprietary risk framework, and communicate market risks frequently to our leadership.
  • Assess sub-market prospects for specific deals and undertake submarket forecasts.
  • Build and write (and potentially present) the research portion of our Investment Committee memos and be prepared to opine on macro/market and submarket trends in Investment Committee meetings.
  • Build sophisticated results and coherently communicate key messages to Trammell Crows managers and investors - via both oral presentations (in-person and online) and written outputs.
  • Supply to the direction and content of research white papers, which may include preparation of papers and articles for publication or presentation at industry conferences.
  • Build and write research sections for client reports, due diligence meetings, long-range business plans, etc.
  • Ensure the Research Team, Trammell Crow, and other key collaborators are kept up to date with construction industry trends.
  • Maintain a validated understanding of our investments and alert leadership of economic and market developments which may affect them.

What you'll need

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Construction/Development or Operations Research.
  • 5 years- validated experience as an analyst of real estate development markets.
  • Several years of research experience, preferably with a best-in-class developer.
  • Good quantitative and forecasting skills, good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Inquisitive and analytical by nature; not afraid to ask questions!
  • Proactive with a "can-do" demeanor and desire to continually grow one's skills.
  • Flexible and able to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Encouraging of separation between business lines, discretion and confidentiality will be required for several elements of this position.
  • Ability to immerse oneself in large data sets and academic/industry research.
  • Ability to prioritize and co-ordinate tasks, ensuring multiple/challenging deadlines are met.
  • Comfortable engaging with senior business leaders, and external clients.
  • Ability to think both at a strategic level and offer insights at local asset level.
  • Strong background in statistics, econometrics, construction or development.
  • Must have explicit job or academic experience in forecasting.
  • Robust understanding of economic data at the national and local levels, with an understanding of how monetary and fiscal policy affects the demand for real estate.
  • Forward-thinking and strategic in approach.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfortable seeking out new data sources.
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English.
  • Comfortable helping to underwrite asset-level investment recommendations and sector-level white papers with little to no supervision.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word.


Optional but Preferred

  • Prior use of Moody's, Oxford Economics, NCREIF, MSCI, CoStar, CBRE EA, REIS, RCA or other third-party data vendors.
  • Data visualization, web scraping, GIS skills and coding (Visual Basic, Python) a plus.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate's education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for this position is $170,000 annually and the maximum salary for this position is $210,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates may also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE IM's applicable benefit program.
