CLIENT SUMMARY

 

Our client is a privately held, vertically integrated real estate investment firm. Based in Newport News, Virginia and Washington, DC, it specializes in the ownership, management, leasing, and repositioning of multi-family properties in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Responsibility for accounting operations and activities.
  • Oversight of General Bookkeeping.
  • Preparation and maintenance of all books and records for numerous entities.
  • Issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and budget variances in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Cash management to ensure cash needs are properly funded and cash receipts are properly received.
  • Support the investor relations function by preparing and overseeing the sending of quarterly distributions.
  • Loan servicing including review of monthly mortgage statements and loan draw packages and preparation of funding requests.
  • Ovesee payroll and coordinate company benefits, insurance, etc.
  • Manage tax return coordination, compliance, and reporting with outside accountants and preparation of various tax schedules.
  • Prepare all yearend work papers and help in the preparation of tax returns.
  • Manage banking relationships.
  • Ad-hoc reporting and projects as requested by the President and SVP – Investments.

 

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

 

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of accounting experience, with at three (3) years in multifamily
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; CPA, MBA, or graduate degree in a related field is desirable.
  • Public and tax accounting background is preferred.
  • Must have a high level of expertise in Excel. Knowledge of QuickBooks a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
  • Comfortable working in a small growing entrepreneurial organization.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to lead the daily operation of the accounting department and handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Confidence, maturity, and ability to assess and process information and make informed, logical and prudent decisions with limited direction at times.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and driven; ability to work effectively in a fast moving, demanding and dynamic, yet collegial environment.
  • Ability to introduce new ideas that improve the efficiency of the accounting department.
  • Impeccable integrity, trustworthiness, and reputation within the financial and investment community as a fiduciary.
