Development Director, Commercial Real Estate

The Development Director is responsible for overseeing development and redevelopment of specific projects within the company’s portfolio.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assists the Vice President of Development to develop strategic vision for newly acquired properties.
• Streamlines the renovation and redevelopment processes.
• Coordinates between all related parties involved with the construction projects including architects, designers, and general contractors. 
• Oversees all development and construction tasks including project design, budget, and scope of work, schedule, and project execution.
• Works with senior executive and asset management teams on budgeting for development and redevelopment renovation projects on properties.
• Assists with the review of all work in process to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, company standards. Reviews and recommends improvements to existing and proposed plans.
• Develops and maintains contacts with industry organizations and sources.
• Provides strategic advice on planning and development opportunities.
• Coordinates the preparation and negotiation of construction contracts.
• Work with all necessary third parties to obtain necessary project permits and entitlements.
• Oversee general contractors assuring projects are completed to the highest quality standards and are finished on-time and on-budget.
• Assumes and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, real estate, architecture, business, finance and/or economics.
• 5+ years of related experience, including strategic support of senior executives.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Assertive, resourceful and a self-starter.
• Previous experience working for and/or with general contractors preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to procure entitlements and building permits.
• Proven track record of leadership and managing development projects.
• Ability to build positive working relationships.
