Tacoma Power's Power Shared Services division is seeking a Facilities Planning Supervisor to join their team. This position is responsible for overseeing facility planning efforts for Power and Utility-owned facilities, including supervision, coordination, work direction, and technical assistance to assigned staff and contractors responsible for successful planning and execution of projects that help ensure safe, cost-effective, and optimal facility operations.

In this role you will develop plans, programs, and processes that facilitate efficient workflows and effective customer service. This role manages long and short-term space planning, including development and oversight of an integrated strategy for facilities planning and construction through Workplace Standards and a Master Plan for the Tacoma Public Utilities Administration Complex and associated operational facilities.

Responsibilities Include 

  • Oversee and participate in facility and space planning, including development and maintenance of an integrated long-range strategy for workplace planning, construction, and management through Workplace Standards and a Master Plan for the TPU Administration Complex.
  • Work with stakeholders including assigned staff, internal customers, management, project resources, and other subject matter experts to determine space and facility requirements and develop solutions that meet both workgroup and organizational needs. 
  • Lead the programming and design phases of projects, including establishment of requirements, allocation of space, technology integration, cost and schedule estimates, prioritization, and final design. 
  • Ensure code and permitting requirements met for facility projects. 
  • Develop and maintain positive internal relationships across the Utility in order to influence issues related to a project, such as an understanding of space provisions, project impacts, design constraints, and agreement on final space designs.
  • Recommend building products and interior finishes, and maintain awareness of new trends and developments in building furnishings, components, and systems.
  • Personnel supervision, administrative management, task direction, and development and/or implementation of policy and procedure for the Facilities Planning Workgroup in order to ensure services are completed efficiently and effectively according to expectations.
  • Select, order, and evaluate supplies, materials, equipment, and services through coordination with manufacturers, local suppliers, and contractors. Specify and administer supply and service contracts as necessary.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Facilities cost center O&M budget and approve staff purchases within established guidelines.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent 
  • Five years increasingly responsible experience in facility planning, architecture, design, engineering, or project management including three years' experience providing work direction to others
  • Bachelor's degree in commercial architecture, design, engineering, project management, or business management desired;
  • Technical certifications and licenses related to commercial architecture, design, engineering, project management, facility management, and/or maintenance operations desired;
