JBC is a national development, investment, and asset management firm that produces superior returns for its fund investors and capital partners.  JBC’s Investments team is currently deploying equity on behalf of JBC Fund VI, the latest in a series of general partnership / sponsor funds which total nearly $1B.  In addition, JBC has utilized its operating platform to provide world-class property management, development, and construction services for its clients. 

 

Job Summary

JBC’s Investments team is seeking both an analyst and associate to underwrite value-add and opportunistic acquisitions as well as take on some asset management responsibilities for the existing portfolio.  The position will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and located at JBC’s corporate headquarters in Chicago.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist investment evaluation and structuring of acquisition and development opportunities in various geographies via complex financial modeling in Excel and Argus Enterprise
  • Conduct market research – assess supply and demand characteristics, analyze market data, identify relevant comparables, etc. – to aid underwriting and asset management
  • Own the due diligence process, coordinating between internal and external stakeholders such as joint venture investment partners, lenders, brokers, counsel, and consultants
  • Prepare pro forma statements and projections which accurately reflect historical property performance, as well as current and projected market conditions
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly investor updates/reporting
  • Prepare investment committee memoranda with strong attention to detail
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses, develop market theses, and assist in other projects as required

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

  • 2-5 years of experience underwriting commercial real estate required, with development experience preferred; investment banking experience a plus
  • Experience with multiple markets and/or asset classes preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in real estate, economics, finance, business or related field
  • Candidate should be familiar with navigating and creating complex financial models with a strong understanding of real estate finance concepts
  • Capable of quickly auditing existing investment models and tailoring to the deal; able to accurately create new models when necessary
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a timely and thorough manner
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Argus Enterprise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to lead weekly project updates
  • Highly motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and team orientation; someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collegial environment
  • Ability to travel occasionally
