Opportunity

Real Estate Private Equity Firm is seeking an investment professional to expand its credit strategies platform. The firm invests capital on behalf of institutional funds with a primary focus on opportunistic investments. The candidate will play an important role in supporting the development of a credit investment platform active in the public and private markets.

The candidate will assist in acquiring, originating and managing a portfolio of real estate-related debt investments. Such investments may include performing and non-performing mortgage loans, mezzanine loans, CMBS, CRE CLOs, and REO properties.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize private market CRE underwriting expertise and market analysis to identify compelling investment opportunities with pricing dislocations and attractive risk-return profiles relative to fundamental intrinsic value
  • Underwrite and perform credit analysis on loan collateral across all major property types within CMBS and CRE CLO securitizations
  • Track issuer, industry, and macro trends that could impact underlying collateral and portfolio values
  • Resolve non-performing loans through restructuring, DPO negotiations, modifications, and other active asset management strategies
  • Execute on asset management and disposition of REO properties acquired through workout situations
  • Selectively originate senior debt, mezzanine debt, and preferred equity investments in underserved or inefficient market sectors

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a real estate finance role (debt fund, hedge fund, B-piece buyer, CMBS trading desk / structuring, structured finance, special servicer)
  • In-depth knowledge of CMBS data platforms (Trepp, Bloomberg, etc)
  • Strong familiarity with loan documents and knowledge of lenders’ rights and remedies
  • Experience with foreclosures, restructurings, and special servicing / REO processes
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Argus
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams
  • Thoughtful presentation and communication skills with the ability to think like an investor and articulate assumptions, conclusions, and recommendations from their analysis
