PLANNING & ENTITLEMENT ASSOCIATE

citizenM is looking for a Planning & Entitlement Associate to join the North American Development & Investment Team and support the team’s efforts to acquire, develop and evaluate a growing portfolio of citizenM hotels in target markets.

 

purpose

The primary focus of the role will be to support the Development & Investment team with managing the land planning and entitlement efforts for citizenM’s secured sites in target markets across North America. The candidate would also support the broader objectives the Team, which include shareholders presentations, competitor analysis, business development, and site acquisition.

 

key responsibilities

  • primary lead in coordination with design and construction teams for planning / entitlement processes
  • managing local community assessment and meeting with private and public assessment
  • preparation and presentation of land and entitlement Due Diligence
  • entitlements and planning applications to local jurisdictions and property owners
  • attend and present at local public municipal hearings, preapplication meetings, etc.
  • develop and manage relationships with municipal staff and officials
  • understand and clearly communicate the needs of different jurisdictions to internal and external stakeholders
  • support with negotiating and finalizing entitlements from municipalities
  • performance of other duties in support of the D&I team’s objectives, including analysis related to acquisitions, asset management, and shareholder correspondence.

    • academic degree in urban planning or a real estate -related discipline; graduate degree preferred but not necessary
    • real estate and financial modelling skills required
    • 2 to 4 years of relevant working experience in real estate
    • work experience with West Coast environmental impact analysis preferred
    • excellent quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills
    • proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Google applications
    • excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; fluency in other languages a distinct advantage
    • a broad interest in the hospitality industry
    • able to work independently and manage time efficiently and effectively
    • high attention to detail
    • a team player with a resourceful attitude
